Artist's statement
Lilly A. paints to help people slow down and notice the natural world in a new light. While her work often features birds alongside flora, her main focus is on insects, creatures that most people view as creepy, unsettling, or easy to ignore. By grafting insects and birds directly with flowers, Lilly pairs subjects we fear or overlook with forms we already find beautiful.
Working in acrylic on canvas, she joins animals and plants into single, seamless subjects set against clean, solid backgrounds. Stripping away extra environment forces a clear focus on shared details, showing how the veins on a wing or the pattern of feathers mirror the lines of a petal. Her work invites viewers to drop their knee-jerk aversion and appreciate the quiet beauty of often overlooked creatures.
